With summer just around the corner, everyone loves a good beat to listen to. Both newly popular artists and those who have been around for decades are releasing new songs, lyrics, and rhythms for their listeners.
People all around the world are excited for their favorite artists’ new albums. Some albums that are coming out or have been recently released include Daughter From Hell by Gracie Abrams, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love by Olivia Rodrigo, and the triple album Drake released, titled Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honour.
Students at Edison Intermediate School (EIS) enjoy a wide variety of music genres and artists.
“My favorite artist is Don Toliver,” Emma Vaccaro, a seventh grader, stated.
“I like acoustic,” Ethan Chang, an eighth grader, admitted.
“I like indie rock,” Sam Smaldone, a sixth grader, commented.
“My favorite artist is Michael Jackson,” Benji Sathananthan, a seventh grader, said.
Additionally, many of the songs on Drake’s new albums, such as Make Them Cry and Whisper My Name, have music videos that have been watched by thousands. Other songs include Janice STFU, WNBA, and H* Phase*.
Furthermore, some artists are liked not only by students but also by teachers. “I absolutely love the new Noah Kahan album,” Mrs. Kim Swenson, an eighth-grade ELA teacher, remarked.
On top of that, country music is also popular at EIS, and teachers keep up with their favorite artists. “I really like Kacey Musgraves. She just released a new album, Middle of Nowhere,” Mrs. Emma Ingram, eighth-grade Special Education teacher, mentioned.
Moving on, Daughter From Hell by Gracie Abrams is highly anticipated. It will be released on July 17, 2026. So far, Gracie Abrams has shared one song with the public called Hit the Wall.
“The singer-songwriter [Gracie Abrams] explained that the single was inspired by emotional burnout and the importance of finally confronting internal struggles instead of ignoring them” (SiriusXM).
In addition, Olivia Rodrigo’s concerts have sold out ever since tickets became available. Her music is very influential to young teenagers, especially girls, because her lyrics discuss love and the insecurities that many teenage girls experience. One of the songs she released early, The Cure, has been widely interpreted for the meaning of its lyrics. “…the track centers on the idea that falling in love won’t necessarily solve deeper personal issues” (ELLE).
Moreover, students at EIS love the new albums that are being released, but to them, a little bit is never enough. Edison students and teachers are always hoping for more. “A new Dominic Fike album would be cool,” Ethan said.
Dominic Fike is an American singer-songwriter and instrumentalist who gained fame for his music, which combines hip-hop, indie pop, alternative rock, and R&B.
“I want Tate McRae to come out with a new album,” Aurile Duguid, a seventh grader, shared.
Tate McRae is a Canadian singer-songwriter and dancer who gained global fame with viral, high-energy pop hits. She last released an album, So Close to What, on February 21, 2025, which reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200.
“Alex Warren should come out with a new album,” Gaby Darsky, a sixth grader, announced.
Alex Warren is a popular artist who writes original lyrics that add meaning to every song he creates. Multiple songs by Alex Warren were inspired by his wife, his childhood, and his emotions. His new album, Wildchild, will be released on August 28, 2026.
Speaking of new albums, although not especially popular at EIS, former Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande is releasing a new album titled Petal, and some students are very eager for it.
“I love Ariana Grande because she’s so talented at singing and acting, and I really want to go to the Eternal Sunshine Tour. I am so excited for a new album. I can tell that it’s going to be very good,” Lily Sommer, an eighth grader, commented.
Plus, more information about Ariana Grande’s new album is being released each day. One of the first teasers before the artist introduced the album was accidentally released. Originally, this wasn’t noticed by many fans, but now that the album has been released, they are talking excitedly about it. Ariana Grande was filming a promotional video for her blush and highlighter shades, part of her makeup line, R.E.M. Beauty, with her mom. Ariana swatches the blushes and exclaims, “Oh, that’s gorgeous.” Joan Grande [Ariana’s mother] chimes in, saying, “Wait, wait… Oh, this one could be the best… Petal. You’ll love this one, Petal” (R.E.M. Beauty).
Arianators (Ariana Grande’s fanbase) could not be more excited and can’t wait to find out what’s in store for the future. In an interview, Ariana Grande talked about the album after its release.
“…Grande said that Petal is about ‘growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging.’ According to the Grammy winner, the album is full of life” (Harrigan).
Overall, many artists are releasing what they believe is amazing music across a plethora of styles for both loyal and new listeners. As mentioned previously, some of these artists include Olivia Rodrigo, Ariana Grande, and Alex Warren. One thing we know for sure is that students and teachers at EIS can’t wait!
