Have you ever thought about what your favorite snack is? Most people do not think deeply about what they are snacking on, but this is a serious question. Snacks are a great way for people to manage their hunger and energy levels throughout the day. It is great to have a snack after a long day at work or school. Snacking at certain times can help individuals with their mood and possibly stress. Eating snacks is quick and easy, and students have a lot to say about the topic.
“I love to eat goldfish or veggie sticks,” said Meghan Carew, eighth grader at EIS. Everyone needs some salty snacks in their lives. Salty food is important since it provides sodium for nerve function.
Caleb Skurdal, a seventh grade student at Edison Intermediate School (EIS) stated, “I have a lot of Hot Cheetos.”
“Trader Joe’s Takis are so good!” said eighth grader at EIS, Grace Lavigne.
Snacks can differ based on what people like. Many common snacks that children liked were Goldfish, chips, cookies, and Cheez-its.
Sixth grade student at EIS, Brooke Williams, stated, “My favorite snack is Hot Cheetos; that is what I usually eat after school.”
Snacking after school can boost nutrition levels to keep kids energized for the rest of the day. Most kids are hungry after school. “Many kids eat lunch early and then have an afternoon of classes. Some may have an after-school activity before their next chance to eat. Even if their lunch is later, it still may be 6 hours or more before they sit down to dinner. After-school snacks can take the edge off hunger and boost nutrition. Parents can help their children choose healthy after-school snacks while still leaving room for dinner” (Gavin).
Mrs. Christine Cabrales, middle school Physical Education teacher at EIS, explained, “My favorite snack is cookies and milk. I snack a lot after school.”
According to Healthline, “Your brain, like other organs, responds to what you eat and drink. It needs several vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients to stay healthy. If you deprive your brain of these essential nutrients, it can’t function properly.”
What healthy snacks do the students at EIS eat? “I love fruit, any type, I eat it after school most of the time,” stated sixth grade student at EIS Savannah Wester.
Mrs. Amy Fahy, middle school EIS computer technology teacher, said, “Right now, I am snacking on healthier things like cucumber slices, Greek yogurt, and Honey Crisp apples.”
Many people eat healthy snacks, but it is okay to sneak in your favorite treats here and there! Seventh grade EIS student Josh Muchow expressed, “My favorite snack is Cheez- its, but usually after school, I like to eat chips.”
Overall, everyone snacks differently, whether it is healthy or not. As long as you monitor your snacking, it is totally great! If you are burnt out and don’t need a full meal, a small protein snack will do the trick, or if you are just hanging out with friends and get hungry, chips are also a great option.
