After a long season of the National Football League (NFL), the big day is almost here: The long-awaited Super Bowl! This year’s Super Bowl is scheduled to air on Sunday, February 8th, and kicks off at 6:30 p.m. People all over the United States are preparing to watch it. Some have parties at home, and some go out to friends’ and family’s houses to watch it. No matter where you watch it, everyone’s awaiting the final play to see who’s crowned the Super Bowl champion. According to Tickpick, the Super Bowl ends around 10 to 10:30 pm. This means that many students stay up late on a Sunday night, having school on Monday. All students have different opinions about if we should have no school on the Monday after the Super Bowl, but most of them believe that we should. Edison Intermediate School sixth grader Kensie Redding said, “I watch the game at home, and I am usually very tired the next day because of how late it is.”
Other students have different opinions about it. Jonathan Paster, an eighth grade student, said, “I’m chillin’ like a villain the next day,” meaning he isn’t affected by the lack of sleep after the Super Bowl airs.
After the game’s over, everyone’s already hyped up and wild. Then they have to think about having to go to school the next day. With the game ending late and the school day starting early, the Monday after the Super Bowl could prove to be dangerous. Eighth-grade student Doruk Karagoz said, “If you’re coming to school by car, some parents might be hungover, and it could be very dangerous. People also stay up late, which makes the next day at school very tiring.”
If we have school the next day, students and teachers may both feel sluggish and tired. They might not be motivated to work, and teachers will struggle to teach their students. After all, students don’t have many days off during February, and it would be a nice break for both students and teachers. A three-day weekend might be just the solution to a sluggish time of the year.
In conclusion, having a day off after the Super Bowl will help give students and teachers a break, and also let them recover from the night before.
