Snow has reached Westfield, and the winter weather is already showing us a taste of the freezing upcoming months. As we transition from this fall, let’s pack up the t-shirts, put away our swimsuits, and welcome the winter attire. So, Edison Intermediate School (EIS), who’s ready to see the coolest and most chic ways to stay warm?
This season, we’re ditching the flimsy layers for prime style with cozy textures like fleece, puffer jackets, and staying at a perfect temperature with the classic turtlenecks and warm flannels, topped with essential beanies and scarves!
Women are making a statement by displaying new types of style. Trendalytics stated, “For women, oversized clothing is still leading the way. Baggy jeans, large coats, and wide-shouldered blazers are everywhere. Retro looks, especially from the early 2000s, are making a big comeback with tiny handbags, metallic fabrics, and bright accessories. Satin and silk are trending for evening wear, making outfits look elegant yet bold.”
Seventh-grade student at EIS Eleya Leung said, “The winter makes me wear more layered options. I wear a lot of sweaters, sweatshirts, and even jeans. I get my clothes from Uniqlo in the winter.”
Adding to this, many female students agreed that they get their clothes from Brandy Melville, Ediked, Pacsun, Hollister, American Eagle, and Urban Outfitters.
EIS students have also been bringing back old trends from past years, along with leaving many trends in 2025. Eighth grader at EIS Lola Tanki expressed, “I want Cheetah print to come back, and stripes should be left in 2025.”
When asked about different trends that need to be left in 2025, seventh-grade student Sully Mommodor very strongly stated, “Quarter zips and matcha has got to go.”
Trends like chunky jewelry, matching sets, pops of red, and flared, baggy jeans are making a comeback in 2026, some students added. There are current styles that people want to leave last year. Styles like skinny jeans, low rise pants, and cropped shirts were common answers.
Male fashion choices are also expanding: “Men in the U.S. are leaning toward a balance between comfort and class. Streetwear, like hoodies and sneakers, is mixing with smarter outfits like tailored jackets and dress shirts. Athleisure is strong here too, with joggers and stylish sweatshirts. Leather jackets, especially in black and brown, are timeless and still popular” (The FashionTech).
Similarly, Sully also added, “I wear thick and bulky coats, longer socks, and heavy sweatpants during the winter months.”
Next, people tend to seek clothing advice from influencers on social media platforms. “The impact of influencers on fashion trends is undeniable. They have democratised fashion, making it more accessible, diverse, and fast-paced than ever before” (Fibre2Fashion). This illustrates that people of all ages value influencers’ opinions and style.
Edison teachers are adapting to the weather by wearing warmer outfits. Here are OOTD’s (outfits of the day)from some EIS staff. Sixth and eighth grade math teacher Mrs. Jillian Semon stated, “My jeans are from Zara , my sweater is Free People, I’m wearing Adidas Gazels, and a cute headband from Anthropology.”
Next, an OOTD from sixth and seventh grade Spanish teacher at EIS, Ms. Jillian Martinez. “I’m wearing tan boots from Walmart, corduroy wide legs from Amazon, this black and white flannel from Target, and a slicked back messy bun.”
Finally, we have the answer to the question some quite frequently ask. As you know, no style is complete without cute hair. So, what does eighth-grade counselor Mrs. Amanda Alicastro use to straighten her hair? The straightener giving lush results is from the brand GHD. So, if you want to complete any style, this is a go to.
Fashion is a notable part of students’ lives. The changing of the seasons influence not only people’s outfits, but also their clothing choices and expression. As Bill Cunningham once said, “Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.”
