Would the EIS community benefit from more clubs?
Clubs and sports teams at Edison Intermediate School (EIS) have always been a great way to meet new people with similar interests and have fun with friends. But some students were never able to experience how enjoyable clubs can be because none of the clubs at EIS interested them. While EIS does offer some clubs, many students wish that there was a team for their sport or a club with their interests. Sydney Schultz, a sixth grader from EIS stated, “If EIS offered an art club, I would do it.”
Sydney is not the only one who deals with this struggle. Many students in all grade levels at EIS feel left out of fun activities. Currently, at EIS, there is a boys and girls volleyball team, a boys and girls field hockey team and a baseball and softball team. However, many students who compete in other popular sports such as basketball, football, tennis and other sports often feel overlooked. Popular sports like basketball, track and field and football are definitely doable here at Edison, but no one has taken the initiative to make these clubs happen, even though they could help promote the school and would be very beneficial. If Edison was able to open up more clubs and teams, then students would be able to meet new people as well as feel a part of a team. Opening up more clubs could also help to improve the school inside and outside. For example, a Green Club at Edison would be great for students who are interested in caring for the environment. As sixth grader Jonathan Sinocchi explained, “I would do a club that helps pick up trash around EIS.”
Therefore, opening up more clubs at EIS would not only benefit students, they would also benefit the school and the EIS community.
