Local Rendition of This Acclaimed Off-Broadway Play Runs Thursday, November 2 through Saturday, November 4
Edison Intermediate School Theater Guild in Westfield today announced its fall student drama production, “Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.” This comedic take on Harry Potter, told from the perspective of the Hufflepuffs, runs for a limited time on the EIS stage from Thursday, November 2 through Saturday, November 4. Tickets are on sale now at https://eis.booktix.net.
Puffs follows the lives of three potential heroes, who are just trying to make it through a certain Wizard school where a certain boy wizard conquered evil. This, however, is not that wizard’s story. This is the story of Puffs—a group of well-meaning, loyal outsiders with a thing for badgers. Their epic quest takes the classic story to new places and reimagines what a boy wizard hero can be.
Led by director Michael Altmann, the cast and crew include more than 100 students, including Edison Intermediate School eighth graders Rylan Bowie, Tziona Gras, Steven Kapsalis, Moss Paul, Andrew Song and Ray Whitlock.
Altmann, who has been directing EIS dramas and musicals for more than two decades, said, “’Puffs’ is a quirky and silly spoof on a story our students know so well, and our cast and crew are having so much fun bringing this to life! With its non-stop humor and lovable misfit characters, I know our audiences will be left in stitches and reminded that even the most ordinary people can do extraordinary things. We’re excited for the community to join us as we embark on this spellbinding adventure, and experience the wizarding world from a whole new perspective.”
“Puffs” made its Off-Broadway debut in 2015 and won the acclaim of critics and audiences alike for its “laugh-a-minute” comedy. It was nominated for the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for “Best Unique Theatrical Experience” in 2017.
