This year’s school musical, The Little Mermaid, was a hit as Edison Intermediate School (EIS) students, teachers, parents and friends purchased tickets to have the show sold out multiple times. The show follows a musical story of a mermaid called Ariel, having a dream of being human. In pursuing her dream, she traded her voice in order for human legs with her evil aunt Ursula. The story follows the adventures she overcomes as her dream comes true. This show was produced by EIS Drama teacher Mr. Michael Altmann. He explained, “It was one of the best shows that EIS has put on; everyone helped make it great, not in only one department but many.”
He also highlighted what each character brought to the show: “Every character each had their own characteristics that made them different in the best way possible. I wouldn’t change anything about the production. I was just happy to be a part of it.”
Mr Markowski, who was the Music Director stated, “It was well directed by Mr. Altmann. He cares a lot about all his students which makes him even more loved by many people at EIS.”
Mr. Markowski pointed out that Mr Altmann doesn’t just care about directing a good show, but instead lets the students have fun while creating a masterpiece. He highlighted how hard the students worked and how much it paid off: “Overall, I thought the musical looked fantastic, and lived up to the expectations and so much more. The props, costumes, sets, special effects, and even the lighting was tremendously planned out and perfected.”
Ella Wint, the eighth grader who played Ariel in the musical, spoke nothing but compliments about the production. She said, “It was a fun experience. I met lots of new people during the show while also strengthening previous friendships.”
While reflecting on her experience, she was reminded of the fact that this will be her last performance at Edison: “The overall experience was wonderful, and I am going to miss everyone, “ she said, “I’m happy that this got to be my last show here, and I would 100% do it again if given the chance.”
Lucy Parks, an 8th grader who saw the musical said, “I thought it was really good. I thought the actors took their roles really seriously.”
She added, “My favorite character was Ariel, and my favorite song was Part of Your World.”
Another positive comment came from costume and set designer, Mrs. Helen Frees, who teaches Art at EIS. She said, “I thought the musical was absolutely amazing, and the students who participated did an outstanding job.”
