End of the year activities are not only fun and a great way to end the school year for everyone, but they are even more special for the eighth graders. Edison Intermediate School (EIS) plans activities for the eighth graders like the end of the year dance, the eighth grade promotion ceremony also known as the eighth grade graduation, and the ice cream social! These are experiences that the eighth graders will get to remember even when they are off in high school! Not only are these activities memorable, they are also highly beneficial in many ways.
A school website called “Global School Town” stated in one of their articles; “As students navigate their educational journey, reaching the eighth grade marks a significant milestone. Eighth grade is a year of critical importance, often viewed as the bridge between the formative years of middle school and the forthcoming challenges of high school. But why is eighth grade important? This period is not only about academic growth; it is a crucial time for personal development, where students begin to form their identities and understand their place in academia and beyond.” Eighth grade activities show how proud the school community is of this big milestone of reaching eighth grade and taking the big jump into high school. These activities can help shape these rising freshmen; they help bond everybody together even more than before.
Another article by another school newspaper website called “Bulldog Bugle” stated, “Every eighth grader has experienced many different things throughout middle school. Being an eighth grader also comes with having mixed feelings about their middle school experience and transitioning to high school. For example, many will say their experience was great, others may say it was boring, and some may be feeling excitement about going into high school while others may be feeling nervous.” This article helps show how these activities can also help ease the nervousness that the rising freshman are facing for going into high school.
Many Edison Intermediate school (EIS) students and staff members have their own opinions on these events. Many eighth graders have a favorite event when we asked them, it is, drumroll please… The eighth grade dance! During this end of the year dance for the eighth graders, all of the girls and boys get to get dressed up and have fun with their friends.
“I’m most excited for the formal because we get to dress up and look super cute and have fun,¨ said eighth grader Naomi Meyers.
Eighth grader Ariana Chafetz stated ¨I am most excited for the eighth grade formal because I get to dress up and have fun.”
Although most of the eighth graders are most excited about the eighth grade dance, they are definitely not the only ones excited about it. Multiple teachers also agree that the eighth grade dance is one of the best events for the eighth graders. Mr. Matthew Varhley, eighth grade U.S. History teacher declared, ¨I think the most fun thing for 8th graders is the end of the year dance; it’s a great fun way to celebrate the end of middle school.”
Mrs. Kimberly Swenson stated, ¨I like the eighth grade dance, I enjoy seeing everyone dressed up and dancing. Everyone has a smile on their face all night.¨
The eighth graders also have the ice cream social! The ice cream social will take place on the last day of school. The eighth graders will spend the day in the back of the school and enjoy ice cream from the ice cream truck while socializing with their peers, signing yearbooks, and having a jolly time!
The Edison Intermediate School (EIS) community has made the last year in middle school for the eighth graders the best year, and one they will surely remember.
