Spring break; a time to relax, have fun with your friends and family, as well as getting rid of the school stress. But have you ever wondered how people really feel about it?
Edison Intermediate Schools (EIS) starts spring break on April 14, 2025 and ends on April 21st. It began late this year due to Easter being on April 20th. In previous years the break started around March 30th and ended on April 8th. But, the real question is should spring break happen at all? Eighth grade student Allison McMullen said, “I would rather have spring break because I love seeing the student versus teacher volleyball game beforehand.”
However, sixth grader Kellyn Dibianca said, “I would prefer to have no spring break at all. Then, we’d have more time for summer vacation.”
Experts say that time off has shown to improve student’s mental health through the one week off from school. It allows them to take a break from all of the quizzes, tests, and the other responsibilities that come with it from being a student. French teacher Mrs. Kate Young stated, “Spring break? Everyone needs one. My family has planned a trip to visit the colleges up north for my youngest daughter.”
There are also many opinions about the vacation starting later this year. Art teacher Mrs. Heather Dilberto said, “I would rather have spring break be earlier because the gap in between time off is so long in the spring. And when we get back, there’s such a short time left in the school year.”
However some people believe that having spring break later is more beneficial and should be like that every year. Others have mixed feelings about the matter. Sixth grader Alina Alchagirova said, “I like to have a break between winter and spring, but I also enjoy a long summer break.”
Moving forward, U.S. News & World Report mentioned the top three vacation destinations. The overall top pick would be Cancun. The tropical weather, turquoise waters and white sands are a hit with tourists. The second place is Miami beach. Miami is an action packed city with golden beaches and tons of diverse foods. The third place is Key West, Florida. This beach town offers warm weather and many tourist attractions. All of these destinations are very popular according to the U.S. News, but where are EIS students going to explore? Seventh grader Diana Kapsalis said, “Last spring break I went to Orlando, Florida. This year I’m going to Boston.”
Also, seventh grader Anabella Morocho said, “I am going to Mexico for spring vacation.”
However, Florida and Mexico are not the only places students are going. Sixth grader Elliot Tobler mentioned, “I have plans to visit the Grand Canyon this spring vacation.”
Another spring break trip coming up for the EIS teachers and a select group of eighth graders is a trip to Europe. In previous years the trip has been to countries like Spain, Italy, and France. But, this year’s trip is going elsewhere. Eighth grade student, Shreya Bose said, “I’m going on the school trip. We’re going to go to London, Amsterdam, and Brussels.”
One of the teachers flying to Europe is Mrs. Tamara Zuckerman who said, “I love traveling and traveling abroad with the students. I enjoy seeing through the student’s eyes. When they arrive, they make new friendships and form an everlasting bond.”
