Ms. Jada Cole, the new Edison Intermediate School(EIS) Vice Principal says she has been enjoying her experience in Edison so far. Ms. Cole has always had a passion for helping kids and when she finally had the chance to do so, she took the opportunity right away. She started out as a financial analyst, and she did that for about four years until she realized her love for children. “I one day realized that I loved children. So I decided to quit my job and start working with them,” she said.
Her first teaching job was as a preschool teacher in Newark, New Jersey in 2004. After that, Ms. Cole worked at a school in New Brunswick; she was a math teacher for middle school before coming to Edison Intermediate school. In terMs. of schooling, Ms. Cole never really loved school “I moved back and forth a lot as a kid so I would always have to make new friends especially in middle school,” Ms. Cole said.
She went to Kean University where she minored in accounting and majored in Business. “I became a financial analyst right out of college for a cancer institute and did that for four years,” she said.
Ms. Cole went back to college to get her Master’s degree in special education at the New Jersey City University (NJCU) while working as a middle school math teacher in New Brunswick, staying close to her family while doing so. “If I were to go back to school I would go out of state to a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in Virginia,” she said.
Ms. Cole loves spending time with her family.“Having children changed my heart. I wish I could turn them back into little people because they still need me but now in different ways,” she said. “I enjoy going to their sports games and spending time with them. I have 7 nieces and nephews the youngest being 7 months old and 5 years old while the other 5 are older.”
She has a daughter named Jordan. Her daughter Jordan is currently attending Delaware State University where she plays soccer. Ms. Cole also has a son who is 24 years old, he is currently a police officer in Essex County. Most of her family lives in Florida, that is where she got her love for seafood. Her mom is her biggest inspiration in her life. Her step dad also had a big part in her life. He is the one who introduced her to numbers and to this day she still loves working with numbers. Ms. Cole also has four siblings; she has two older sisters, one older brother and one younger sister. All of her siblings and her are extremely close; they live within one mile of each other.
