School can be stressful enough for people; imagine going to school and not being able to contact your family and friends in an emergency situation because the one thing they can use to communicate with them is taken away. This is not only stressful for students but also for parents. In an emergency situation, adults are not able to contact their kids, and if they do, the kids can get a punishment from only contacting their parents. Cell phones should be allowed in school because of safety reasons, Digital responsibility and everyday emergencies.
To start, cell phones should be allowed in school for safety purposes. An article explains that ¨In unfortunate events such as school emergencies, fires, gas leaks, or injuries, having access to a phone can be vital. Students can quickly alert authorities or parents, saving valuable time. Phone features such as location sharing can be critical in these desperate situations.¨ ( life360). This demonstrates that, Students should be able to have quick access to their parents. In an emergency they will not have quick access unless they have their phones. Most people claim that students can use phones in the office. In reality kids should not have to leave class to make a phone call when they can simply text their parents in an emergency. Usually, there is only one office phone. There are a lot more kids than phones if it is an urgent emergency. In those situations kids should be able to contact their parents.
Furthemore, digital responsibility is another reason why all students should have cell phone access in school. Tengonogy is not going away. We can teach students to be responsible with their devices to benefit them in the future. This quote explains ¨Technology is here to stay, and that means we have to teach our children how to be responsible in the digital world. By creating boundaries on how phones can be used in school, kids can learn how to be responsible outside of school as well.¨ ( Life 360). Because children use there phones on a daily basis, teaching them to be responsible and by teaching them boundaries in school we can teach them to carry them outside of school too.
Lastly, cell phones should be allowed in school because of everyday emergencies. Everyday emergencies can be as simple as leaving something at home or feeling sick. Kids should be able to text their parents when something happens. In this quote, it shows how important texting parents could be to a student when needed. “From unexpected family emergencies to transportation issues, phones can be a lifeline for students to connect with their guardians. In unplanned situations, communicating directly with family reduces stress and confusion.”
This proves that when a student is texting their parents, it helps them feel better about what is going on. To conclude, kids should have access to a phone in school. If they are irresponsible, they can have parental controls but they should all have access to a cell phone.
