Holiday movies have a special way of bringing warmth and joy to the season. Many people enjoy watching their favorite holiday movies as a way to relax and embrace the holiday spirit. “From Home Alone and Elf, we’ve made our list of great holiday films and checked it at least twice. Now, to all the nice boys and girls out there, we present the Best Christmas Movies Ever!” (100 Best Christmas Movies of All Time).
To find out which movies people love the most, we asked eight people about their favorite holiday films and why they make them feel the holiday spirit. Aiden Norman, a sixth grader, said, “I love holiday movies, and my favorite one is Home Alone. The next movie I want to watch is The Nightmare Before Christmas. I like holiday movies because they’re really funny and they make me feel good. From the list of 13 movies we were given to watch, my least favorite is Elf.”
Holiday movies are known for lifting people’s moods and bringing the holiday spirit to the next level. They’ve been comfort movies for years, with their heartwarming stories and lighthearted humor. “Holiday movies can boost mood and relieve symptoms of depression by providing an escape from daily stressors and increasing perspective-taking. They are heart-healthy, reducing stress hormones like cortisol that can damage the cardiovascular and immune systems,” says Fielding Graduate University.
Mrs. Schall, the principal at EIS, shared her thoughts: “I like holiday movies. My favorite movie is Home Alone. The next movie I want to watch is Unaccompanied Minors. I love holiday movies because they get you in the spirit of the holidays.”
Holiday movies affect people in different ways. There’s something magical about cozying up by the fire with a warm cup of hot chocolate while watching a holiday classic, especially when it’s cold outside. “Home Alone is the best movie of all time. It’s so funny. It brings me joy while watching it and gives me the feel of the holiday spirit,” said eighth grader Hailey Pitigala.
For many families, watching holiday movies is a cherished tradition. These movies often revolve around themes of family, tradition, and humor, which are key parts of the holiday season. “My favorite holiday movie is Home Alone. I like holiday movies because they remind me of Christmas. They’re fun, and I get a good vibe from them,” said seventh grader Juliana DeTrolio.
Humor and heartwarming stories are why many people love holiday movies. Movies like Home Alone are favorites, while others like The Nightmare Before Christmas don’t get as much love. “I love holiday movies. Home Alone is my favorite. I like holiday movies because I love Christmas, and it’s my favorite holiday. The worst holiday movie is The Nightmare Before Christmas,” said seventh grader Grace Thornton.
Elf has become a popular holiday classic over the years, especially because of Will Ferrell’s humor. Many people enjoy rewatching this funny movie about a human elf who visits New York City. “My favorite holiday movie is Elf because it’s really funny,” said sixth grader Konnor Scatigno.
Eighth grader Scarlett Ruf also loves Elf, saying, “It’s really funny and good.”
The best thing about the holidays is that they are for all ages—and so are Christmas movies! Many people grow up watching their favorite holiday films and continue to watch them with their kids, pets, or spouses. Mrs. Amanda Gant, an orchestra teacher at EIS, shared, “Home Alone is my favorite because I watch it with my kids every year. It’s an amazing movie.”
Holiday movies are an important part of the Christmas season, bringing laughter, warmth, and memories to people of all ages. Whether it’s Home Alone, Elf, or another holiday classic, these films continue to spread joy and help us celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.
