Do you know two in three people consume fast food every week in the United States? Most Americans love fast food and the different items on the menu from places like McDonalds, Wendys, and Burger King. Our goal was to find out in EIS what their favorite fast food place is and the most popular item.
When we researched the most popular fast food chains, we found out that McDonald’s is the number one restaurant chain in America based on both sales and number of locations, and it has over 36,000 restaurants in over 100 different countries. However, students have other opinions on their favorite fast food places. “I usually get the deluxe meal from Chick-Fil-A,” said eighth grader Jaxon Field.
Fast food is quick and an easy option if you’re hungry and you don’t have the time to cook, and you will always see a fast food place off the highway or at a main road. People love it so much because it is easy to eat and easy to access. Eighth grader Aston Cerminara shared, “It’s fast, easy, delicious, and cheap. I love it.”
“Fast food is easy and not expensive,” added eighth grader Blake DeSimone.
Finally, everybody loves fast food because of its different options and variety of menu items. The most popular item of all time is the Big Mac. According to The Daily Meal, “McDonald’s has been around since 1940 and has set the tone for every fast food chain that has come after it. This is due in large part to the creation of the Big Mac.”
The Big Mac is a burger that features two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, and pickles, on a sesame seed bun.
Second in line for popularity is Burger King’s Whopper. “Though McDonald’s is by far the biggest player in the fast food game, Burger King is often associated as the next largest competitor when it comes to getting burgers and fries” (The Daily Meal) This burger is similar to the Big Mac, but it doesn’t have special sauce. It comes with mayonnaise instead, and adds tomato and onion to the bun. Does EIS have the same taste in fast food as research suggests? No. According to our interviews, here are some items that students love to eat at fast food restaurants:
- Eighth grader Dominik Kotowicz said his favorite item was a Big Mac from McDonalds.
- Wesley Thomas, another eighth grader, said his favorite food was a grilled cheese burrito from Taco Bell.
- Brady Quay, a sixth grader, said his favorite item was McDonald’s 20-piece nuggets
- Francesco Mola, an eighth grader, also said his favorite item is a 20-piece nuggets
- Special Education teacher Ms. Stephanie Grajales said she loves Chick-Fil-A spicy chicken sandwich and waffle fries
Why does everybody love these items? Well the only reason why people keep eating the same thing is because there are ingredients in the food that causes it to be addictive. According to a website Medicine net, ¨Most foods served as fast food are highly processed and rich in salt (sodium), fats, and sugar¨(medicine net). All in all, people love fast food because the places serve great food, it is very cheap, and lastly the ingredients tend to be very addictive and bad for you, so it should probably be eaten in moderation.
