Rangers-Islanders, Devils-Flyers to play outdoor games at MetLife Stadium
The New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, and Philadelphia Flyers will be playing outdoor games at MetLife Stadium next season. It will be the fourth outdoor game for the Rangers, fifth for the Flyers, and the second for both the Devils and Islanders. The games will be part of the NHL’s Stadium Series.
The expectation is that the games will be played on back-to-back nights in February at the home of the Giants and Jets. The Devils will play the Flyers, most likely on a Saturday night. On Sunday night, the Rangers will play the Flyers. MetLife Stadium seats 82,000 fans and is the largest professional sports stadium in the United States. There will be concerts and other events as well. Details will be announced at a later date. The Devils and Flyers have never played each other outdoors. The Rangers are playing the Islanders for the second time. The Rangers won 2-1 at Yankee Stadium in 2014. The Islanders will be the home team due to the Rangers lease agreement with Madison Square Garden. It is unclear who will be the home team in the Devils, Flyers game.
